It is confusing. Error on this blog was 05 WHERE OR WHEN, should be Val and Susie singing a verse, not Val and Jen as printed. Incidentally, when Val and Susie sing their verse and reprise, these should be amazing sections where in the chaos and activity of a working stage, love emerges.
Blog titled "2005 Musical Numbers by Actors" lists who sings what, except for Phyllis, a character for whom we are creating/finding a song 'cuz she's got great pipes which would be a crime not to recognize.
"You're Nearer", duet added in '59 for Val and Jennifer, is cut -- mainly because that love sub-plot was cut as too cumbersome and poorly resolved and the song ain't so hot.
"All at Once", a duet in both '37 and '59 between Val and Susie, was replaced with "Where or When" -- a far superior and recognizable love song. So the intent (we need a love song here) remains, but a better song instead. "Where or When" has been removed then from Val and Jennifer, as that love sub-plot was cut and replaced with "Way Out West End" by Jennifer.
In the larger picture of the structure of the show, though, we had far too many solos and duets and too few large production numbers. Eliminating these two duets from Val and Jennifer allows me to put larger numbers in, eliminates the cumbersome sub-plot, and keeps the show zipping.
