Rick Springfield

Don't ever doubt the ability of a has-been, aging, 80s rocker to have learned a few concert production tricks, including:
1. having audience sing refrain into microphone ( enough so everyone had a chance)
2. playing guitar with long-stemmed red roses, so the petal soar through the air
3. standing on a chair in the middle of the audience, playing and singing (then moving to another chair)
4. throwing out guitar picks every few minutes
5. taking water in mouth and spitting it at audience
6. smashing guitars/throwing them 20 feet into the air
7. inviting audience members up on stage
8. light a ballad with cell phones rather than lighters
9. play his guitar with a cell phone
and
10. tearing off shirt for encore

wow. more on the Guthrie later, but I'm still processing Rick.
