Decker's Favorite Musical EVER!!
It's true, I'm crazy about Moulin Rouge. It's brilliant. Like I do with great books, I go back over key moments again because there is so much to absorb. On the DVD special features>Behind the Red Curtain > Green Fairy ON, if you can catch the one at the finale, it's amazing to see Baz work out the ending 20 minutes before the last day of shooting starts.
So, the quick list:
Chicago is quickly dropping out
no Bye Bye
no Tommy
no Singin -- informally, RAGS and Singing at Civic were considered the region's top two shows of the past year among some of my arty friends.
Rest are still in there. very little neutrality on HSM. . .
Thanks for sharing, still don't know who was hired for choir -- maybe somebody that loves kyogen. . .
Because of some option button I can't find, I can't delete individual comments, only an entire post and all comments. So, I have begun moderating comments before they hit the board. Some of the contents by Anonymous were disturbing, but the open community self-solved it. And finally, this link (be sure to "show original post"), details my thoughts on free speech. Welcome to the digital age.
How was the Guthrie, guys? How is the facility? How are the shows? How are the state's other thespians?

that is a good idea to see the comments
I still have no opinion on a show because I know that whatever it is, it will be awesome

First of all, I LOVE Moulin Rouge. Totally with you there. In fact, I should watch that again, haven't seen it in awhile...
Anyway, the Guthrie conference was absolutely amazing!!! I had a GREAT time, the workshops were so englightening, and the shows blew my mind. The Great Gatsby, already one of my favorite books already, was especially breathtaking. I was stunned. I would give anything to have this experience again. Definitely worth the money and four days off of work and such. I encourage underclassmen to seize the opportunity in the future.
There's my two cents. :)

Haha, I said "already" twice up there. That'll teach me to use the computer at night...
I'm commenting again to add that the new Guthrie space is incredible. I almost cried when we took the tour of the theater (okay, maybe not really, but it was crazy cool). Everyone needs to get up there and see it. It's one of those things you have to see in person. You will be amazed.
That's all!

Thanks for asking!
The Guthrie was a blast. It was the best thing to happen to me all summer, especially because I met some very cool people. The Great Gatsby was amazing...I would go as far as to say it was the best play I've seen (not saying a lot). It is playing through Sept. 10...everyone please see it!

We could always do a show with Lots of sword fighting, i love swords. JK but actually i think doing Camelot would be really cool, bwcause i did a basically athe sword in the stone at the civic as young arthurt and doing another thing like that would bve awesome. but that's just my opinion.
The Guthrie conference was something that I shall remember forever! I'm still trying to write about it in my diary, but words are hard to come by. The workshops were definetly something to experience. They ranged from improv, to physical acting, to storytelling. One of my favorite classes was about building a character. Some fellow thespians got so into their characters by the end of class that they were actually crying (because their character was dealing with a difficult situation)! We were told that next year the theme of the conference was to be musical theatre.
And I just wanted to mention that during Great Gatsby, the actors in the background (not the focus of the scene) were walking and performing in slow motion! It was really cool to see proffesionals doing something that we were instructed to do during Rags!
The Guthrie was AMAZING! The entire building was just beautiful! I had so much fun meeting so many new people! And The Great Gatsby was such a great show, I LOVED IT!

moulin rouge is one crazzy musical. love it also!!
just a thought, but i was over at my friend's house [who goes to Studio Academy] and we were rattling off musicals we'd want to be in before we die...
"Edwin Drood"
..o_O...have we considered that one? you know, based on Charles Dickens' unfinished murder mystery?!
omg lalala yay!! we should so do it. i saw it in Red Wing a few years back...it has fantastic audience participation, and anything goes...literally. the audience PICKS the ending!!
consider it.
