and. . .scene!
Ah, enjoyful. You are beautiful!!
Not only artistically fruitful, but 800 seats sold too, a new record.
What a wonderful show; I'm blessed to share my passion and joy with so many creative and gifted people willing to work so hard. Thank you.
Seniors -- keep in touch. Check the blog next April to see how the production is shaping up, and if you're in town (especially Saturday night) we'll make a reunion of it during strike and have that be an annual tradition.
Underclassmen: I'm more excited today about next year's show than ever. I'm quite serious when saying that if we can make RAGS work (which we did and we should not ever underestimate), imagine what we can do with a "standard" musical. Keep the fire burning.
Speaking of which, we have two specific opportunities for actor growth:
1. Commonweal Theatre Conservatory: two weeks on site in beautiful Lanesboro working with professional actors. Starts in mid-July and only costs $150. Pretty amazing opportunity.
2. Guthrie Summer Conference: at the new Guthrie (it will only be one month old), you have workshops with the best directors and actors in the nation -- no kidding. Add in the hotel, free tickets, great food, 300 theatre freaks, and Ms. Nieland and you're bound to have an amazing time. August 10-13, just $100.
This will be the final post for RAGS; next I'll be posting about my summer graduate program, which looks extraordinarily rigorous from the recently arrived syllabus. Feel free to use this space to offer final comments/post-mortem about the show.

Something I forgot to say at the circle last night: As actors, we are blessed with the ability to affect people, but this can only be done if everyone, on and offstage, cooperates. Well, we have done this. We have made people cry. We have made ourselves cry. We have produced something beyond ourselves. We have produced human emotion. Thank you guys for such a wonderful few months. I love you more than you know!
Guys, last night's show was absolutely incredible. After getting a standing ovation twice, I seriously was almost brought to tears once again. This show couldn't have gotten any better. You are all amazing actors and I will always love you all.
God bless!
great job everyone!
sounded great in the pit, so i know it sounded great for everyone else!
I LOVE YOU ALL!
You are all amazing and I've been blessed to have this opportunity. I'm going to miss ALL you seniors, I'm excited to spend one more year with what truly is an exceptionally talented junior class, and will continue to be in awe of the amazing freshmen and sophmore classes...you guys have blown me away.
Decker-You've been an extremely talented mentor. I'm looking forward to continued insight.
I didn't forget, but thought to preserve the remaining eyeliner to leave my poor fingers with less to touch up:
I shall miss with such a great depth the seniors. You've all made my experience that much worth while, and are the reason I had to this date stayed with theatre. Now it's the underclassman.
Much love all round.
We rocked.
Hey guys
saturday was one of the best performances i've ever done a play for, and everyone was beautiful, i was almost in tears at the ned to think it was over, but yet i kept up my reign of not completely crying just, having my eyes water a whole crap load. love you seniors.
actually i love you all.
Wow, having serious theater withdrawal right now...
Every time I think about it, I realize that, even though it took away SO much of my free time, I would much rather be at practice after school every day than spending my time any other way. You guys made the experience UNBELIEVABLE, I feel so lucky to have been a part of all of it. The most I can say is thank you. It's going to be so hard to have everything go back to normal again, and I'll miss you all a ton.
Thanks for a great show. I love you all!
Hey guys, time for me to stop being a shoe nazi. You guys produced an amazing show that blew me away. I think it is time to stop thanking the seniors and take time to thank the freshmen. You stepped up the quality of our program to a new level. We could never had pulled it off without you. Enjoy the rest of your high school career, it goes fast!
I have a TON of pictures. Come find me, if you read this.
yes. i know the show ended last saturday, but i forgot to say some of the more sappy stuff, because the consequence for me would have been ruining my hooker eye makeup:
nothing in my life--EVER--has affected me like "Rags" did. i found so many new friendships and tightened up already existing ones. I left my "comfort zone" and did things i couldn't imagine. We provoked emotions in the audience that a high school RARELY does. We put on a show TECHNICALLY more times than on broadway. we threw it down. WE KICKED BUTT. seriously. omigod. i know i will always live, eat and breathe theatre...but this will never leave my head or heart. "Rags" will always appear on my resume.
i love you guys. you're my new brothers and sister (ixnae the marriages!!!!!!!)
<3 emily
oh yeah.
i'll miss you seniors.
come back or face my wrath.
!!
*scary music*
I was looking at what other people before me wrote and you all proved the point I was going to make. I noticed something with this cast and crew that rarly happens. We all came together as a family. There really was no "big drama" and the whole "seperate groups" thing. I think this is partly the amazing people in and involved in this production, and partly the powerful musical we pulled off so nicely. I am really looking forward to working with all of you that will be here next year. Alas, I am not looking forward to saying good-bye to all the seniors and others that will not be around next year. I will miss all of you very, very much. I wish all of you good luck though, and to keep pursuing in what you are most passionate about, and to keep doing what you love to do. I have had so much fun with you guys and have grown to love each and every one of you. With that being said I leave you with this:
" Now we must part
going our seperate ways
there in the golden land
living those better days
but not quite complete
if we never meet again"
~Your little friend better known as David
(chuckles a bit after finding many grammatical and punctuation errors on previous post)
I think David needs to shape up in school. Good thing he's in a "regular American school" now. On the other hand, Saul could have confused the poor child by teaching him incorrectly. Nah. It's not his fault. He never taught David that stuff in the first place.
ah hahaha little David is completely right though. I have found a family in theatre, one that I've never had. As I said in the circle, you guys have all become my brothers and sisters, I will never forget this!
So here's the deal... my dad works with the photo guy, and he said something to my father that really made me value you guys all the more. He said that he has never seen a cast work so well together at all of the highschools that he's worked with (including Century and Mayo), or have so much respect for the director. So for that, I thank you. Parting is such sweet sorrow,
Lizi
Hey you guys, this was my first experience with acting since middle school, and originally I had a lot of reservations. As the whole thing progressed, however, I realized how great this all was. I now know how lucky I have been to share so much time with people like you guys. You've given me so much, and that's one debt I'll never be able to pay.
Thanks for a wonderful show, it was without a doubt one of the most fantastic experiences I'll ever have.
Thanks to you too Decker

Well, thanks for making me CRY, Alyssa!! :)
What a hard week it's been so far...Just posting to say that afternoons without you guys is EXTREMELY painful, and I miss you all very much. I never really applied a lot of the sad lyrics in the show to my real life until now, but lines like, "Oh my homeland, my homeland, goodbye..." really hold some true meaning for me now. The theater was my home for those two months, and it was very hard to say goodbye to it. That said, I wish you all the best of luck in the coming years (especially seniors!!) and I'm going to shut up now because I've already posted my ramblings once on this blog, and I'm wasting space. Hugs to all!!
Alyssa, I don't like parting.
Love to all.
Hello - Mr. Decker's wife here. Thank you all for doing a fabulous job and giving my husband a wonderfully challenging and positive experience with this large-cast show. I have seen a lot of theater performances and I'm a tough audience - very critical - so don't take my praise of your talent and hard work lightly! Keep on performing . . .
