RAGS, written in 1986 by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Prince of Egypt), Joseph Stein (Fiddler on the Roof), and Charles Strouse (Annie!), follows 5 immigrants to New York City in 1910 as they step off the boat and into a brand new world. While they search for work, love and their American identities, we follow the characters in the sweatshops, city streets, and political functions as they try to navigate and assimilate. This sweeping saga of awakenings and disappointments, of greed and power, of strength and love is a powerful testament to the American spirit.
