Theatre JM announces Fall 2008 Play
Theater JM is pleased to announce their Fall 2008 production of Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People. This masterpiece by the "Father of Modern Drama" will be presented in the round, with actors and audience sharing the Ilstrup Auditorium stage together, offering an intense and intimate connection for participants. The story revolves around Dr. Stockman and his quest to proclaim Truth to the disapproval, admonition, and anger of the community. To what extent will he sacrifice himself and those he loves to serve this nobler purpose? The cast of 15 will explore these ideas in a contemporary setting while discovering the demands and joys of acting without walls. Eric Decker will direct and is pleased to celebrate the return of Jeff Swegarden as scenic designer. Performances are November 6-8, 2008, with additional performances scheduled for area upperclass high school students. Auditions are scheduled for September 16 and 17 in the Ilstrup Auditorium with rehearsals every day after-school. This production will mark the culmination of Mr. Decker's Chicago College of the Performing Arts work on his Masters Degree in Theatre: Directing.

Does contemporary mean there will be more females in the cast than the in the original?
Yes. I'm quite comfortable with a female Dr. Stockman (have a great character name ready to go!), Mayor, Aslaksen, Hovstad -- all are able to be swapped around and work quite nicely. The main reason it's so easy is because the message to so dominant -- of course we all can fight for the truth, and Machiavellian tactics are done by males and females. Good question!
