Summer in Chicago

Greetings from the Windy City!

This is the Dramaturgy summer. On Thursday I finally realized why I was so down; I was mourning not seeing more of Chicago than what is outside my window or on the short walk across the street to classes or on the short walk across the other street to the library. But now that I've named it I'm doing much better; I'm here to learn and study first.

And am I learning a lot! In sum, I'm thrilled to look forward to this fall with An Enemy of the People. While I don't have the setting down yet, I'm spending 2-3 hours a day thinking about it and getting ready on a much deeper level than I have for years. I do know a few things, which I've already shared: It will be in the round - a phenomenal experience for actors to grow and perform in an intimate setting. We'll use the Miller adaptation, which is far more spritely than the straight Ibsen translation. Every role will be cast regardless of gender. This show will offer tremendous depth for the actors, far beyond what I've been able to do with the musical. Finally, everyone involved in the show is sure to benefit tremendously.

I hope your summer is going well. It's not too late to sign up for Drama for second semester, bringing the skills you learn into auditions and future shows as soon as possible.

Bonus web search: Can anyone help me find a web-based translation service that goes from Norwegian to English? It can't be one word at a time and ideally will be free:) Responses welcomed as comments.
